present continuous practice

Tonight we are learning present continuous. Present continuous (also called present progressive) is a verb tense we use in English to describe what is happening NOW at this moment. Here are some sites with good practice for you:
  • This site has several pages for you to work with. Go to this one first. It shows how to use this tense in the affirmative. Go here to to practice negative sentences. Then go here for more practice. The bottom of all three pages has some other practice, so don't forget to do those.
  • Here's another short exercise for you on present continuous. It is a very easy matching one.
  • This exercise is a little more difficult. You will need to click on the line and then type your answer. This is from the same site, but it gives you an chance to practice writing questions using present progressive.
  • Here's another site with explanation and practice. This has a lot of information.
  • Finally, try this site. It's a fairly complete exercise that works on this tense.

some pronunciation sites

First go here to practice words with their sounds. There are mp3s (audio files) to help you.

Here is another one called shiporsheep. When you move your mouse over the picture you will hear the word and can practice.

This is a site you have visited before. It is called ManyThings. We did the sounds at this site a couple weeks ago, but it is good to revisit it.

Here is a series of exercises on syllable emphasis. We did some of this last week, so now is a good time to review.

This site has a very limited number of sounds, but it looks like a good site for practice on those sounds. First choose the sound from the drop down menu marked "Select a Sound." Then choose "Words" from the drop down menu marked "Select a Category."

vocabulary sites for tonight

Begin by going to this site. Start by learning the vocabulary words at the top of the page, then do the exercises at the bottom.

Next go here. This has a short quiz that will help you learn new words for occupations. Here is another short quiz from the same site. It has some of the same words, but also some new ones (it's pretty easy). Finally, there is this quiz (again from the same site)that will give you some more practice.

Lastly, go to this site. It'll help you learn a few new words.

Please be sure to write down all of tonight's new words. We will be doing something latter in the lesson with them.
